Xiaomi, a Chinese tech company, has completely captured the Indian smartphone market in the mid-range segment. The Redmi series is still seen as one of the finest and cheapest smartphones in its segment. It has now launched the much-awaited Mi Notebook 14 series in India.
Xiaomi has launched two different notebook models, the Mi Notebook 14 and the Mi Notebook 14 Horizon, with the latter being the flagship. From the launch event, it is clear that Xiaomi is trying to price aggressively and capture the laptop market too.
The sale for the Mi Notebook 14 is about to begin from the 17th of June and before that let us take a closer look at what we know about this laptop.
Mi Notebook 14 Specifications:
Talking about the design of the laptop you get an Mg-Al alloy (A5052) which makes it super light and strong. At adjust 1.35 kgs, the laptop dimensions are little bigger than an A4 sheet with the screen to body ratio 91%. This is achieved due to the incredible low bezel size of 3mm at the top and at the sides. According to Xiaomi, the Hinges are supposedly tested to last for 25000times.
You get a 14″ full HD display (1920×1080) at 16:9 aspect ratio with an ASD anti-glare coating on the top which lets you use the device even in bright environments. With viewing angles of 178 degrees, it is sufficient for everyday usage considering the fact that it has an IPS certification.
The keyboard present in the Mi Notebook is strikingly similar to the one present in the MacBook. The keyboard is made of ABS material with a scissor key mechanism that has key travel of 1.3mm. The trackpad is also considerably large at 11cms x 5.7cms. Talking about the ports available in the Mi notebook, you have 2 USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port, 1 HDMI 1.4B, and type C port for data transfer and charging other devices. The Type C port is NOT a USB thunderbolt port. We also get bottom-firing stereo speakers with DTS support which helps us finetune the audio.
All the variants of the Mi Notebook are powered by the latest Intel 10th gen processor. The base variant of the Mi Notebook 14 comes equipped with a 10th gen Intel core i5 processor and the flagship Mi notebook 14 Horizon with 10th gen Intel i7.
All the variants are only available with 8GB DDR4 RAM at 2666 MHZ. You have 3 options when it comes to the dedicated graphics unit – Intel UHD 620, Nvidia GeForce MX250 and MX350. The Mi notebook 14 has 10 hours of battery backup and will be charged using a 65-Watt charger which will boost your device from 0 to 50% in 35 minutes.
Xiaomi has done justice when it comes to the pricing of the laptop. Starting at just ₹41,999 for the base variant and all the way up to ₹59,999 for the specs rich Horizon variant, its sure that its competitors have something to worry about. Xiaomi has also partnered with HDFC bank to provide up to ₹2,000 instant discount which brings the effective price of the base variant to ₹39,999.
Can this be the laptop for you? From all that we can infer from the specs and design, it is clear that Mi Notebook 14 is supposed to be an everyday driver. While the Mi Notebook 14 can handle occasional gaming and other demanding tasks, it is not built for it. If you are looking for a companion to cater to your everyday requirements such as browsing, watching movies, playing games, and occasional video editing, the Mi notebook might be the perfect one for you.
