SAMSUNG Galaxy Prime Series Review

The importance of inexpensive smartphones in developing countries is increasing and it does not always have to be a premium device. Samsung’s Galaxy family is a bit overwhelming as it provide Android smartphones that satisfy the need of all target markets. The Samsung Galaxy Prime series is supposed to attract customers that wants to spend less than $300 and need LTE (Long Term Evolution). The smartphones launched in this series are Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime and Samsung Galaxy Core Prime. This review shows if and where Samsung has made compromises with theses devices.

In the high-end smartphone segment, Samsung is undoubtedly the winner with its Galaxy S6 but in the mid-range segment the task is a bit more challenging which is visible with Galaxy Grand Prime. There is a huge amount of competition.

There are some drawbacks that you will have to live with. The display is not inspiring as the colors are pale. The chassis does not win any design prizes even though it leaves a sophisticated impression and it seems pretty heavy too. The battery runtimes are satisfactory but could be better considering the big battery.

Though, Grand Prime is not a bad smartphone. On the contrary, there are some good aspects. You get a good amount of performance, the battery is replaceable and the speaker is actually better than expected. Also, you get LTE within this range.

The Galaxy Grand Prime is an overall solid smartphone, but the small drawbacks are more noticeable when compared to the rivals in practice. Many customers would be happy with this inconspicuous device.

Galaxy Core Prime represents Samsung’s take on the Galaxy Core. There are updates in two base formulas – a slightly better camera and chipset. This model can also be considered as smaller option to replace Galaxy Grand Prime.

After launch of Galaxy Core 2, Core Prime was announced within a month. Even then it brings about definite improvements over the member of the family. The camera is better than any other phone in the category. The front camera (considered important in selfie world) is the best in Core family, but lacks the ambition of the Grand Prime’s selfie camera but according to its pricing it sounds fair. The 64-bit Snapdragon 410 in this model is a big advantage.

The screen was easily the biggest disappointment with its low contrast ratio. Not having HD resolution is still forgivable, but the image quality is not as good as what cheaper devices offer. The loudspeaker is rather quiet. Samsung music player is available in this model which means you miss out on good features. The Core Prime gets many things right, but surely not its pricing. The price is bound to drop.
